I have not really been a victim in any circumstance of these flooding cases of rape going on in the society in these recent times especially in Nigeria and I do not pray to be. But as a concerned Nigerian who has feelings for others, I am getting alarmed with the news of rate of rape and children sexual assaults that flood our media everyday. It is becoming practically a reality that hardly do a day pass now in our country without one reading an ugly news either in Nairaland or newspaper of a 40 year old man sexually assaulting a five year old girl or a sixteen year old boy raping a one year old girl. Now, I do not want us to take this for granted, neither do I want us to attribute everything to the devil.
In my opinion, I think a lot of factors should be taken into considerations to reduce this menace to the lowest ebb.
1. The rate of pornographic videos and websites should be checked and sex education taught in homes. It is a pity that most families especially Christian homes expect their children to be holier than God and remain chaste till marriage and perhaps forget that they are human beings that have sexual organs and who as a result experience libido. To this effect, they only tell them about the expectations they have from them to remain pure without actually teaching them how and without ever running a check on the kind of videos they are exposed to. Some of these people even make issues worse by restricting the movement of their male children among girls as though that will naturally kill the urge for sex. DECEIT. You know what? It rather increases it. The little boy locks himself up in loneliness, satisfy his desires by porn videos he is sure to get from friends and websites, masturbate as friends instruct him on whatsapp and of course, consummates the action whenever the opportunity shows up from any female in sight especially defenseless and helpless babies who are the only ones within their reach and who would not  expose them to the dreaded parents. Unfortunately, this is the bane of the societal morality.
Parents, please, do not be this careless again. Bring your children closer to yourselves, make them feel at home with you, make them have confidence in you and make them feel free to tell you secrets and to ask you questions. If you discover them to be the melancholic types who will never talk at their own will, ask them questions about how they feel about their sexual lives. Explain their bd=ody changes to the.
WARNING>If you do not teach your children sex education, outsiders will teach it wrongly
2. Rate of Divorce cum sexual starvation from spouses> I don t want to talk much on this since I am not married yet but I will like to use it to justify the reason for adults who though married are still caught in this web. However, I feel that nmost of them simply lack the fear of God and lack respect for good moral values while some are simply frustrated. I think there is need for more active psychologists to be at their aid.
3. High sensitivity of children to sex. I have noted personally that the rate by which children are sensitive to sex these days is alarming. This still results to lack of parental care and high exposure to some sex related videos and songs. Personally, I have encountered some children who once they are close to you will start touching you anyhow and even get close to your sensitive parts. There is no doubt that when these children get close to these sex hungry fellows especially in secluded places and touch them in a sensitive manner, the result is usually the sad news of sexual assaults.
In summary, I still suggest that Jesus remains the highest remedy while including all those other factors. While giving your life to Jesus is a giant step, knowing your worth in him will help you to naturally not conceive some things as worth doing. God bless you
