It is disheartening to see how people of today are excited about Valentine day not because love is a thing of excitement for them but because they plan to indulge in immoral acts with their partner. So, I am still wondering who sold this lie to our generation. My people, who taught us that love is synonymous to sex? As a matter of fact, some youngsters see it as a day to break the virginity they have been holding for their parents. O di egwu. Lol!
Well, here is my opinion of what Valentine day should be for us. I am particular about teens because they are mostly the innocent ones. And by saying thirteen year-olds here, I am using that to represent teens. Every other age can participate though. Now, take a look at these thirteen points.
Check out the out the origin and the reason behind Valentine’s Day celebration. For the brevity of time, there are several legends surrounding the celebration of valentine but the hallmark of it all is that valentine is a celebration of love. It is a day to show affection and love.
Check out the meaning of love. What does love actually mean? How can we actually show love? For the benefit of doubt, love is not synonymous to sex. People can have sex with people they don’t love. Examples are sex workers.
Check out ways you can show love to yourself. How much do you love yourself? Show yourself some love. Give yourself a treat. Then, think of others too.
Think of God too. Think of how much He loves you. Think of the free gift of love he gave to you through Jesus. Are you saved? Commit yourself to God and get saved.
How about parents? Show them some love. Of course, you should be doing that everyday
Make up your mind to show at least a person love and do that.
Think of the number of persons that are still perishing in hopelessness, not aware of the Saviour’s love for them. The greatest love was shown by Christ who died on the cross to save humans from destruction.
Look out for the destitute, the poor, the homeless, and the motherless and bless them with gifts.
Buy gifts for friends that you love.
Move out with friends, share ideas with friends, celebrate friends and put smile on people’s faces. But don’t go home with them.
Do not offer your body for sex in the name of Valentine. It negates the valentine itself.
Do not end up getting unwanted pregnancy on Valentine’s Day. It does not show that you love yourself.
If eventually you did not heed any of the advice and engage in immorality and get pregnant, do not go further to show that innocent child more hatred on the day of love by aborting him. He does not deserve that treatment. Don’t also forget that HIV is real. Happy Valentine people!
